Tasting notes

The Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru "Les Taillepieds" 1996 (1500 ml) is a beautifully mature, classic red Burgundy showing incredible precision and depth. It opens with a vibrant, fully evolved bouquet of pure griotte cherry, licorice, dried rose petals, and a savory whiff of forest floor. The palate is exceptionally broad and dense, offering a harmonious core driven by a distinctly stony, mineral tension and lively acidity. Balanced by robust, structural tannins that elegantly spread across the palate, it finishes long, clean, and perfectly defined. Preserved beautifully in a magnum format, this is a masterpiece of old-school complexity and power.

More About The Winery

The De Montille family has been a cornerstone of Burgundy for centuries, but the domaine’s reputation was firmly established in 1947, when Hubert de Montille inherited vineyards in Volnay. Hubert’s wines became legendary for their austere, structured style, built for long ageing.

Since the 1990s, Etienne de Montille has led the estate into a new era. Expanding into Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet, and beyond, he also integrated the former Château de Puligny-Montrachet holdings, creating one of the most impressive portfolios in the Côte d’Or.

Pioneering organic farming since 1995 and biodynamic practices since 2005, Domaine de Montille is now admired for wines that are both authentic and generous. The reds are vinified with whole clusters for aromatic depth and finesse, while the whites display precision, minerality, and purity.

Today, Domaine de Montille stands as one of Burgundy’s great names, producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that perfectly express their terroirs and continue to captivate collectors worldwide.
