Tasting note
The 2020 Domaine Comte Senard Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru “Les Valozières” is a powerful and structured Pinot Noir from one of the notable Premier Cru vineyards of Aloxe-Corton in the Côte de Beaune.
In the glass, it reveals a deep ruby color with dark reflections. The nose is intense and expressive, offering aromas of blackberry, bramble, and ripe dark fruits, layered with subtle earthy, spicy, and forest floor nuances.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, supported by firm yet refined tannins that provide both depth and aging potential. The fruit is concentrated and juicy, balanced by freshness and a touch of spice, leading to a long, complex, and persistent finish.
More About The Winery
Founded in 1857 by Jules Senard, Domaine Comte Senard is a historic Burgundy estate best known for its Corton-Clos des Meix Monopole, which became a Grand Cru vineyard in 1937 with the creation of the AOC. Over five generations, the domaine has expanded to encompass 22 acres of prestigious terroirs, including Corton-Clos du Roi, Corton-Bressandes, and Corton-Paulandes — jewels of the northern Côte de Beaune.
The wines of Corton are renowned for their depth, power, and longevity, and Domaine Comte Senard captures this essence with remarkable precision. Today, the estate is led by Lorraine Senard, who continues her family’s tradition while bringing a fresh, modern vision. She practices sustainable, organic viticulture, hand-harvesting with meticulous sorting to preserve the integrity of the fruit.
In the cellar, winemaking respects tradition with a cold soak, gentle pressing, and temperature-controlled fermentation, followed by ageing in the domaine’s 14th-century cellars built by Benedictine monks. The result is a range of wines that are seductive, structured, and built to age with grace, showcasing the full power and finesse of Corton’s terroir.
