Château Fonbel

Saint-Emilion

The Domain

Château Fonbel is a distinctive estate located on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Owned by Alain Vauthier of Château Ausone, Fonbel reflects a more contemporary and experimental approach within the Vauthier portfolio, while maintaining the precision and discipline associated with one of Bordeaux’s most revered families.

The vineyard is planted on clay-limestone soils, with a diverse varietal mix that includes Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a small proportion of Carmenère — an uncommon grape in Saint-Émilion. This diversity brings complexity, aromatic lift, and a distinctive identity to the wines.

The Style

Viticulture is conducted with meticulous care and respect for the environment, favouring balanced yields and optimal ripeness. In the cellar, winemaking is precise and restrained, with gentle extraction and controlled ageing that emphasise fruit purity, freshness, and structural harmony rather than power.

Château Fonbel produces elegant, expressive Saint-Émilion wines with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a modern yet terroir-driven profile. Appreciated by sommeliers and collectors alike, Fonbel offers a refined and original interpretation of the appellation.
