Tasting notes

The 2016 Château Clairac “Cuvée Tradition”, from Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux, is a Merlot-dominant blend offering a supple and approachable expression of the right bank style.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby color with youthful reflections. The nose opens with ripe blackcurrant and dark berry aromas, accompanied by subtle hints of spice and soft earthy notes. On the palate, the wine is round, fruity, and well-balanced, supported by generous yet smooth tannins and a fresh acidity that brings lift and drinkability.

More About The Winery

With a family history dating back to 1832, Vignobles Carreau represents seven generations of dedication to Bordeaux winemaking. Rooted in the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, the Carreau family has built its reputation on producing wines that combine tradition, authenticity, and value.

Today, the family oversees several estates, including Château Clairac, cultivating vineyards across the Right Bank on hillsides overlooking the Gironde estuary. The terroir, composed of clay and limestone soils, provides ideal conditions for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, yielding wines with richness, balance, and character.

The Carreau philosophy has always been to respect traditional methods while embracing innovation where it enhances quality. Under the leadership of the current generation, the family continues to refine vineyard management and winemaking, ensuring consistency and excellence across all their cuvées.
