Tasting notes

The 2017 Les Fiefs de Lagrange, the second wine of Château Lagrange in Saint-Julien, is an elegant and approachable Left Bank Bordeaux that combines freshness with classic Médoc structure.

In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with bright reflections. The nose is refined and expressive, offering aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry, complemented by subtle hints of cedar, spice, and graphite.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and well-balanced, with silky tannins and vibrant acidity that bring both elegance and drinkability. The fruit remains pure and lively, leading to a smooth, polished finish.

More About The Winery

Located in Saint-Julien on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Lagrange is one of the historic estates of the Médoc and was classified as a Third Growth (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) in the famous 1855 Bordeaux Classification.

The estate’s history dates back to the 17th century, when it was already known for producing wines highly regarded in the Bordeaux trade. Over time, Château Lagrange became one of the largest properties in Saint-Julien, with vineyards planted on the region’s classic gravel soils over clay and limestone, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon.

A major turning point came in 1983, when the estate was acquired by the Japanese group Suntory. Significant investments were made to modernize the vineyards and winery, including extensive replanting and the construction of a new gravity-fed cellar. These improvements helped restore Château Lagrange to its status as one of the leading estates of Saint-Julien.

Today, the vineyard spans around 118 hectares, planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The estate produces its flagship wine Château Lagrange as well as its second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange, both known for their balance, elegance, and classic Saint-Julien structure.

Combining historic terroir with modern precision, Château Lagrange continues to produce wines that reflect the finesse, structure, and aging potential of this prestigious Médoc appellation.
